Aurora Police Name Employee of the Month

A veteran Aurora Police officer who initiated follow-up questioning of a man stopped for suspicious behavior which led to numerous felony charges against the suspect has been named the May “Employee of the Month”.

Officer Dave Brian was honored for his actions on May 20 when he went to the home of a man that police had stopped the night before who was in the area of a “Peeping Tom” incident on Aurora’s west side. When originally stopped, the officers had to let the 24 year old man go because they didn’t have probable cause to arrest him.

When Brian and another officer talked to the suspect, they were able to gather enough probable cause based on his own statements to take him into custody. While investigators interviewed the man and secured possession of child pornography, burglary, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct charges against him, Officer Brian played an integral role by contacting unwitting victims, completing police reports, and assisting with evidence recovery.

“Because of the extra initiative taken by Officer Brian to look into this incident, along with information gained by investigators, a potentially very dangerous individual has been taken off Aurora’s streets”, said Chief of Police Greg Thomas.

Officer Brian began his Aurora Police career in April, 1995.
