City Garbage Stickers To Increase 8 Cents July 1
Allied Waste/Republic Services, the City of Aurora’s waste haul contractor, will be implementing a small garbage rate increase starting Sunday, July 1, but residents can continue using their old stickers through the end of August.
Sticker prices are set to increase from $2.60 to $2.68 per sticker effective next month, and the monthly fee, which is indicated on residents’ water bills, will increase from $3.35 to $3.45. The new yellow garbage stickers have been made available to purchase in stores this week, but Allied Waste/Republic Services will honor the old orange stickers through Friday, Aug. 31.
The Aurora City Council approved a new garbage contract extension this spring to lock in prices for the next two years that remain lower than most neighboring communities with only minimal increases for residents. This is a modified volume-based program that encourages unlimited recycling collection and requires people that generate more garbage to pay more for garbage disposal. Recycling collection, the unbundled brush collection (sticker not required), the free spring yard waste and fall leaf collections, and holiday tree collection programs remain unchanged.
Starting July 1, the new pricing schedule outlined in the contract includes the following increases:
- Senior bags $1.30 to $1.34
- Senior monthly fee $2.35 to $2.45
- 65-gallon cart (optional) monthly fee $15 to $15.47
- 95-gallon cart (optional) monthly fee $18.25 to $18.82
For residents who select the cart rental option, stickers are only required for any additional refuse placed outside of the cart.
The new rates apply to residents using the City of Aurora’s garbage collection with Allied Waste/Republic Services and do not pertain to certain subdivisions that privately contract their own refuse services. More information about refuse and recycling services is available on the City’s website.
