Explanation of Annual Aurora Water Rate Adjustment

Beginning with the July billing cycle, Aurora residents will notice a 4.80% increase in their water bills.

Since the late 1990’s, the City has increased water rates between 2% and 5% annually in order to avoid much larger increases that may occur on unpredictable schedules like those that have taken place in several neighboring municipalities. The increase is necessary to cover operating costs for providing some of the safest, best tasting water in the nation and to maintain the City’s water distribution infrastructure.

Breakdown of Rate Adjustments:

Water Availability Fee-Increases 30 cents from $7.80 to $8.10 per two (2) month billing cycle.

Water Use-Increases 20 cents from $4.17 to $4.37 per 100 cubic feet of water used*

*Qualified senior citizens receive a 50% credit not to exceed $21.96 per two (2) month billing cycle.

The adjustment is outlined in City Ordinance 011-030 which amends Section 45-57 of the City of Aurora Code of Ordinances.
