Aurora's Farmers Market Has Something For Everyone

Aurora’s Farmers Market is set to open for its second weekend in its brand new location offering a fresh menu of produce and entertainment for all ages.

Bradley Keven Green will be performing the blues during the market, which will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 9 at Wilder Promenade, 350 N. River St., which is situated near the west bank of the Fox River and was formerly the home of the old Aurora Police Department headquarters.

The June 9 market marks the debut of students from Northern Illinois University’s School of Family and Nutrition Sciences, who will be staging cooking demonstrations illustrating the simplicity of healthy eating. The demonstrations will feature fruits and vegetables from produce being sold by market vendors that the students will then prepare into healthy recipes.

The Sprouts Passport Club will be giving children a tomato plant to grow at home in addition to a healthy eating activity this weekend.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, each market will continue to offer a wide assortment of seasonal farm-fresh produce, a variety of flowers, gourmet wines and cheeses, knife sharpening services and much more.  The market runs every Saturday through October.

Farmers Market parking is available in the City’s P Lot located on River Street between Vine and Cedar streets.  Handicap parking will be available at the south entrance of the market on River Street.

Residents wanting to learn more about the Farmers Market, including two additional markets opening in July on the City’s Far East and West sides, should visit www.aurora-il.org.
